LATINAS 4 LATINAS ANNOUNCES ANNUAL CHARITY EVENT CONNECT 2018 RETURNING SEPTEMBER 22, 2018

Silent Art Auction and Cocktail Party Benefits D.C.-based Latino Women with Cancer; Art showcase curated by María Gabriela Mizes

Washington, D.C., September 10, 2018 – Latinas 4 Latinas, a D.C. non-profit organization that raises money for the Latino community, announces its signature event CONNECT 2018 to be held at the Mexican Cultural Institute of Washington on September 22, 2018. This year’s presenting sponsor is Iron Mountain / Crozier / Artex, a national fine art services company for museums, galleries, and private collections.

CONNECT 2018 is a silent art auction fundraising and benefit cocktail party that brings the D.C. area and the arts community together.   CONNECT 2018 has become a platform not only for established and emerging local and international artists, but also for artists with special needs to exhibit their talent and contribute to a noble cause.  Painters, photographers, and sculptors are among the participating artists; Curator’s Office, Make Studio, Reyes+Davis, RoFa Projects, are some of the participating galleries.  Over one hundred art pieces by almost sixty artists curated by Argentinian museologist and art historian, María Gabriela Mizes, will be auctioned at this event.

CONNECT 2018 guests will enjoy music, drinks, and heavy hors d’oeuvres while viewing and bidding on the diverse array of art.  The goal of CONNECT 2018 is to raise $50,000 to support the efforts of Nueva Vida, a non-profit organization that was founded in 1999 to fulfill the growing needs of the medically underserved Latino community affected by cancer in the Washington, D.C. area.

In this second edition of CONNECT, the Latinas 4 Latinas Leadership Award 2018 will be presented to its first honoree, the highest-ranking Latina in the government, Madam Treasurer Jovita Carranza, Treasurer of the United States of America, for all her leadership, hard work,and inspiration to younger generations, and her impact in the Latino community.

Lebanese Taverna Restaurant Group and Macchu Pisco will be sponsoring the VIP Meet & Greet Hour and will feature a signature drink – the Pisco Sour, Peru’s national cocktail while Inglot USA will provide the goodie bags.  The VIP Meet & Greet consists of a private tour of the art auction led by Curator Mizes together with select artists.

About the Curator

María Gabriela Mizes is a museologist and art historian, originally from Argentina, who graduated from the Instituto Argentino de Museología and Columbia University in New York and has worked around the world at various museums and art institutions.  After her tenure at the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes in Buenos Aires, the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), and The American Federation of Arts in New York, she founded Latin American ERA in Washington, D.C., a private consultancy company providing expertise in exhibitions and art management for national and international projects for the Smithsonian Center for Materials Research and Education, the National Museum of Women in the Arts, and several private art collections. Ms. Mizes is currently the Director of Registration at Glenstone Museum in Potomac, Maryland, where she has been coordinating exhibition installations, managing the outgoing loans program, and caring for the collection for over eleven years.
